Why do breasts sag?
The main reasons for differences in breasts include age, hormonal fluctuations, pregnancy,
weight loss or gain and genetics. Although there is no one skin or body type that cause the
breasts to change, it quite simply could be the changes in a woman's breast volume that cause
the skin to stretch and thereby sag. Sagging (called ptosis) results in flattened breasts with
a longer shape and nipples that may be pointed downward. In more dramatic cases of ptosis, the
nipple area of unsupported breasts hangs lower than the breast crease on the chest. With breasts
that sag this significantly, wearing a support bra is a necessity in every day life.

How do you correct sagging breasts?
Techniques used in breast lifts must address several a few key points: shape, location of scars,
quality of scars, longevity, and sensation of the nipple/areola complex and preservation of
lactation. Others things you should consider are the degree of sagging, elasticity of skin
and how much excess skin are you planning to have removed?
In correcting sagging breasts and creating a perkier breast, your surgeon will make incisions
to sculpt the breast into a new position, reducing excess skin and raising the nipple/areola
area. These are the same incision patterns that are typically used in breast reductions. In
going through this procedure, your surgeon will also be able to reduce the size of your nipple,
too.
Surgery does not change the amount of breast tissue you have, but it does change the overall
shape and position, affecting breast size. If size is vitally important, an implant may be
inserted to create size or firmness. Discuss with your doctor how you would like to accomplish
the goals you are seeking.

What should I know about breast lift surgery?
Your new upper body will be visible immediately after surgery, but the look will take a few
weeks to settle. Breast lift surgery is the one of the only way to recreate a youthful body
contour to your breasts. Many times exercise, breast-firming cream or laser treatment that
has been proven to produce results is simply not enough. Most of the time, a breast lift is
a one-time procedure; but if another lift is necessary, the same incisions can usually be used.
In deciding if you are a good candidate keep in mind:
- If your breasts are pendulous, but of satisfactory size
- Your breasts may lack density or firmness
- Or if your nipples point downward and are positioned below the breast crease
You may be a good candidate.
When discussing with your doctor how you want the outcome of the procedure to be, make sure
your doctor shares your goals for your body and your health. Make sure you have thoroughly
understood your breast enhancement options.
Take note of where the surgery will be performed, including the accreditation of the facility,
anesthesia provider and their qualifications, and the medical staff that will be responsible
for your health and safety.
